Created in 2017 as a one-day partnership with Rama First Nation, “Gathering” is now a three-day road show! Orillia Centre is proud to partner with the Georgian Bay Native Friendship Centre, Midland Public Library, Midland Cultural Centre, and others, on three days of First Nations, Indigenous, and Metis authors from across Canada, representing some of the diversity, tradition, and resilience, of First Nations cultures.
A Friday Night Gala with Tomson Highway performing “Songs in the Key of Cree”, and three days of readings by and opportunities to meet authors including Alicia Elliot (A Mind Spread Out on the Ground), Daniel Heath Justice, Lee Maracle, and many more. Events for all ages will be held throughout downtown Midland.
The organizers acknowledge this festival takes place on the traditional homelands and territory of the Anishnaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Huron-Wendat indigenous peoples, and offer our most sincere gratitude for the welcome we have received as guests and colleagues.
