Orillia’s natural beauty and thriving arts community has long inspired and attracted artists, writers, and performers such as Stephen Leacock, Arthur Shilling, Charles Pachter, Glen Gould, and Gordon Lightfoot.
Once completed, the Orillia Centre for Arts + Culture will include an innovation hub, performance spaces, galleries, artist residences and studios, and a sculpture garden.
Activities at the Centre will include educational programs ranging from elementary through to post-secondary, cultural exchanges highlighting the rich history of the site and the Orillia area, as well as accentuating Ontario’s natural beauty and its need for preservation.
Our performance centre will host visiting musicians and provide access to live orchestral music for the youth of the area, many of whom have limited opportunities to witness dance, operatic and symphonic performances.
Once in full flight, the Centre will provide unparalleled access to arts and culture in the region, rivalling places like the Banff Centre in Alberta, Tanglewood in Massachusetts, and the Chautauqua Institute in western New York State. Our vision is that the Centre will act as a tourist destination comparable to The Stratford Festival, and Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Shaw Festival.
